RoboNation is pleased to announce membership in the U.S. Department of Defense STEM Education Consortium (DSEC). The Department of Defense (DoD) supports Science, Technology Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) as a “gateway to a world of wonder,” and we could not agree more. DSEC partners, with organizations nationwide, offer resources for students, parents, educators, and mentors, and one of their strategic goals is to increase access to STEM education for military-connected students and underrepresented groups.
RoboNation will introduce the SeaPerch program to three military-connected communities in Louisiana and Texas by fostering partnerships in communities surrounding Fort Polk, Fort Hood, and Joint Base San Antonio. SeaPerch is an underwater remotely operated vehicle (ROV) program where teams design and build ROVs and learn how to work together toward a common goal, build a community of peers and ultimately compete against other SeaPerch teams in local, regional and international competitions.
SeaPerch is an integrated STEM education program utilizing real-world engineering materials and processes. Combining both theory and practice in innovative hands-on activities, students design and build their own underwater ROV while learning basic science and engineering concepts like tool safety, technical applications, problem-solving and team-working skills.
RoboNation, Inc. (previously the AUVSI Foundation) began operation in 2009 with generous support from AUVSI and three founding partners – SolidWorks, Northrop Grumman and Insitu (a Boeing company). Today, RoboNation is an independent, tax exempt, 501(c)3 nonprofit whose mission is to provide a pathway of hands-on educational experiences that empower students to find innovative solutions to global challenges. Working together with industry, research and educators, we have grown to include over nine student competitions and programs and engage more than 250,000 students per year.
About the Defense STEM Education Consortium
The Defense STEM Education Consortium (DSEC) is a collaborative partnership of STEM-focused organizations dedicated to addressing and prioritizing the nation’s STEM talent. In support of the DoD STEM Strategic Plan, Fiscal Years 2021–2025 and aligned with the 2018 Federal STEM Strategic Plan, DSEC aims to broaden STEM literacy and develop a diverse and agile workforce with the technical excellence to defend the nation. Through strategic investments in STEM education and outreach activities, DSEC partner efforts provide students and educators with exposure to educational and workforce development opportunities as well as awareness about career opportunities in STEM fields across the DoD.
